The Story

ā€˜Burning Hearts’ Heliopsis makes a powerful statement in the garden or meadow. Heliopsis helianthoides is native to eastern and central North America, and the ā€˜Burning Hearts’ cultivar was selected for its unique foliage color, tall upright stature, and vibrant blooms that reach 2-3 inches in diameter.

This plant thrives in dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun, but tolerates clay soils and light shade. Though drought-tolerant, plants perform better if watered regularly. Tolerant to heat and humidity, Heliopsis is a great choice for southern gardens.

Plant at the back of mixed borders, in naturalized meadow style planting, pollinator gardens, or in large containers. Plants can be cut back by one-half in late spring, before flowering, to control height. Deadheading spent flowers will extend the blooming season, or leave spent flowers standing to provide seeds for songbirds.
